John Edward Swift IV Obituary
John Edward Swift IV, age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2007, surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Born on November 22, 1924 in Wilmington, John was the son of the late John E. Swift III and Etta J. Swift. He was the salesman for Swift Pools, Inc. in Newark, which he co-owned with his son since 1974. John was a member of the Eastpoint Community Church in Newark for many years. In his leisure time, John liked to hunt, fish and take photographs. In his later years, he enjoyed parking by the water and watching the boats. He also took great pleasure in watching and taking photos of wildlife. His family and friends will long remember John as a wonderful storyteller who could always be counted on to share good stories of his younger days. His greatest joys were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; he passed on to them his values and his love of life.
Mr. Swift was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Marie Swift, who died in 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Constance J. Nichols and her husband, John, of Millington, MD; his son, John E. Swift V and his wife, Bonnie, of Hockessin, DE; 6 grandchildren, John J. Nichols of Texas; Grace M. Eyler of Tolchester, MD; Tara J. Hopkins and her husband, Jeffrey, of Smyrna; Hilary Swift Smith and her husband, Adam, of Newark; Courtney Swift of Pike Creek; and Ethan Swift of Newark; 7 great grandchildren, Kimberly S. Eyler, Jenna Hopkins, Scott Hopkins, Connor J. Smith, Emma L. Smith, and twins, Chloe L. Swift and Mia S. Swift; and sister, Natalie Neiger and her husband, John, of Dover.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 121 West Park Place, Newark, where friends may call after 10 AM. Interment will follow at 1:30 PM in Longwood Cemetery, 945 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, PA.
